Unger Brothers main business was silver, not glass, but they ended up with some 400 persons in their cutting shop by 1900 so cut glass was clearly an important part of their business. This 210 page compendium includes an Introduction by Judy Northup, Unger researcher and ACGA Past President, three Unger catalogs (one circa 1898, one circa 1902 and the other 1904), Unger cut glass pieces from ACGA member collections, a brief look at Unger’s silver production, Judy Northup’s research into women cutters (focusing on the Unger Brothers firm) and a comprehensive pattern index. Libbey Redux American Brilliant Cut Glass & engraved catalog Amberina new 2019
The ACGA previously has published two Libbey catalogs. The first was printed in 1988 and the second in 1996. Now, over twenty years later, we will be publishing Libbey Redux. For those of you who are not crossword puzzle aficionados, redux means revived. That title fits the new catalog perfectly. Dozens of Libbey catalogs, advertisements, and booklets from the Rakow Library of the Corning Museum of Glass and from the library of the Toledo Museum of Art were reviewed, and approximately 250 pages of material previously unpublished by the ACGA were carefully selected for the 2019 catalog. You will find new patterns, known patterns cut on different shapes, interesting booklets, and a comprehensive index. The booklets include a beautiful, full-color 1916 catalog of Amberina glass, the 1933 post-Prohibition, full-color booklet “Notes for an Epicure” which includes photos of Libbey-Nash stemware, the c. 1890s Libbey booklet “Facts on Cut Glass,” and a booklet of advertisements. In addition, LindaJo Hare, author and researcher, will contribute a comprehensive chronology of the Libbey firm during the Brilliant Era (1870-1920) that will give readers interesting insights into the company’s operations.
