In the late 1970s, George Mason University was a campus brimming with transformation, creativity, and energy. Established just over a decade prior as an independent institution, by 1977–1979 GMU was still in the midst of carving its unique identity in Fairfax, Virginia, away from its origins as an extension of the University of Virginia.
