Murphy’s Manor was a comic strip syndicated to gay/lesbian publications across the US and Canada from 1981 to 2008, running a total of1205 comic strips. The local publications were usually LGBT newspapers or bar guide magazines. Most newspapers were available free, distributed in local bookstores, gay businesses, and bars. Murphy’s Manor topics covered sex, politics,gay lifestyles and community. This book includes 128 of the early strips. The early editions of this book were compilations of extra copies of stats (photo offset copies) that I sent to subscribing newspapers.These editions had two strips per page, landscape, one-sided. and stapled in the left margin. In this 4th printing (1986) I laid out the artwork in portrait with 4 strips per page, printed as an 8½x11 book on 11×17 paper,folded down the middle, and saddle stapled. In June of 2020 I have about half a box of these books left, out of a run of about 4-6 boxes. There will not be another printing when these are sold. My other LGBT comics works started with Gay Comix #1 in1980. Eight more stories appeared in Gay Comics, some featuring the Sparkle Spinsters. The Meatmen anthology series frequently included selections from Murphy’s Manor, but there were also six original stories, including “Little Red Riding Crop,”the final Sparkle Spinsters story. In 2019 I published Murphy’s Manor: the 30 Year Wedding. This collection celebrates the community’s achieving gay marriage after a long struggle. Selected cartoons from entire run tell the story from ground level. The book also includes the first new strips in a decade, as Mark and Murf finally do get married, legally.
